Nicholas Duran

The method of spinning to the beat of music is something that will become very familiar to you in a class with Nicholas.  Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Nicholas has spent many years devoted to dance. After graduating from the University of Arizona, Nicholas performed in companies both in the U.S. and Tokyo, Japan.  Following his move to LA, spin quickly became his main form of cardio.  It was a new way for him to push physical boundaries as well as encourage others to do the same.  His spin class is full of encouragement and positive energy while riders discover their own stride and internal rhythm.

You are stuck in LA traffic - what music are you playing to pass the time?

If I am stuck in traffic I have my music on shuffle so that I can start creating my next playlist. I feel that I never listen to music anymore without a new playlist being formed in the back of my mind.

What first got you into fitness as a lifestyle and career?

Having been a competitive gymnast for 8 years and dancer turned professional dancer, I feel that physical activity is something that I have always done. Spin is just another form of movement that I transitioned to while dancing, but movement in general will always be part of my daily life.I love spin and use the energy that I had on the stage and direct it to the bike and the other riders.

What is one of your favorite fitness moments so far in life?

A favorite fitness moment of mine is when my mom took my spin class for the first time. She was used to seeing me on stage performing, but for the first time hearing me command a room with more than just my body but with my voice as well was a time that I truly cherished. The reason this was so important to me is because I am typically very soft spoken and I have never enjoyed speaking in public, but working in fitness brought out a new side of me and I was happy that my mom was able to be the witness to that.

What is your favorite and least favorite exercise?

My least favorite exercise is any type of bicep curl. I manly work triceps because of all the vinyasa’s I do in yoga. Bicpes are not a favorite and they are something that I am working on. My favorite types of exercise are any type of agility, quick, explosive movement type of things.

What is one of your favorite inspirational quotes?

I find this quote to be inspirational in the sense that it is a reminder that we have one life that is short, so live it to the fullest.“I would rather regret the things that I’ve done than the things that I have not.” – Lucille Ball
